Customizing your Options

After reviewing your city’s sign criteria, it’s time to think about what your sign should and can look like. The sign criteria limit the size and in some cases style (some cities do not allow signs that are internally limited or signs that may alter a building’s surface if it is deemed historical.) Knowing what you can and can’t have is helpful and our previous post can assist you in finding out just that. 

With this new knowledge, you can begin to consider which sign styles will give you the best exposure. A front-lit illuminated sign is standard and therefore a safe bet. Typically these are recommended with signs that are just letters and characters but your sign can be tailor-made to your logo’s shape. To further customize your sign, your logo can be printed on vinyl turning your sign into a true one-of-a-kind piece of art. These signs can be made to order allowing you to choose the color of the letters and their trim or outside lining. 

Another option is the reverse illuminated sign. It is not as common as front-illuminated; however, that is not to say that they cannot be the ideal choice for your sign. This sign is best described as a sign with a halo or blanket of light from its backside. Instead of your letters illuminating from the inside to be seen as is in a standard illuminated sign, your sign cuts through the light to be viewed. Keep in mind your business hours and whether or not your sign will benefit from this feature 

The most appealing sign for customers with a custom logo is what we call a hybrid channel letter sign. This sign is illuminated both through its front and its backside. This produces an eye-pleasing and attention-commanding sign. This option paired with your business’ logo incorporated into the sign is what can elevate your storefront’s appearance.
